A huge fire that swept through a crowded Manila shanty town has destroyed more than 800 homes, leaving thousands homeless after they were forced to flee for their lives from the towering flames, officials said on Thursday. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but authorities suspected a short circuit, possibly from an illegal connection to power lines.
