Russia loses advanced military satellite after rocket launch

Russia said on Monday that it has lost communication with a newly developed military satellite after it failed to separate from its booster rocket after takeoff. The Kanopus-ST satellite launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome on Saturday. Officials say preliminary investigations show that one of the four locks holding the satellite malfunctioned during the separation from the Soyuz 2.1V rocket.
